Palintest Photometer Keeps Competition Clean At Beijing’s ‘Water Cube’ National Swimming Centre
Thursday, 15 May
Beijing’s new state-of-the-art aquatics centre, the Water Cube (National Swimming Centre), has recently purchased a Palintest Pooltest 25 Plus photometer to test the quality of their swimming pool water. Palintest technicians will calibrate the kits and provide technical support throughout the 2008 Games to ensure smooth competition.

Already in use at the Centre, the Pooltest 25 Plus has also so far safeguarded quite a few ‘Good Luck Beijing’ pre-Games events. “These kits are just what we need: they provide convenience, accuracy and low maintenance workload.” said Mr. Chen Lei, official in charge of maintenance for the Water Cube’s swimming pool, after a trial of the equipment.
This Palintest photometer is designed for full-range testing of a swimming pool’s water quality. The Water Cube will use it to measure free residual chlorine, total residual chlorine, pH, alkaline level, hardness, ozone and other water quality parameters. Compared with similar products on the market, the Palintest Pooltest 25 Plus boasts unparalleled technical advantages.
Palintest has more than 130 years’ history in chemical analysis and invented the international and the Chinese national standard methodology for residual chlorine testing. Seamlessly integrating Palintest’s advanced chemical analysis technology with ergonomic design, the Pooltest 25 Plus features easy-to-use, rapid testing, in addition to high stability, compactness and portability. The IP67 ingress protection is especially useful for on-site testing, guarding against splashes, high-humidity environments, and even full submersion.
Test data can be directly transferred to a computer or control system via a USB port. As well as conventional water testing functions, it also features automatic conversion of balanced water calculations, and will recommend ideal conditioning agent parameters, thus aiding swimming pool maintenance personnel. Palintest can also provide professional water quality analysis and treatment simulation software to be used with the Pooltest 25 Plus.
Located on either side of Beijing’s central thoroughfare, the ‘Water Cube’ and the ‘Bird’s Nest’ (National Indoor Stadium) combine to reinforce the image of Beijing as a prominent world capital rich in culture and history. Hosting swimming, diving, synchronised swimming and other events during Beijing 2008, the National Swimming Centre accommodates 17,000 seats, including 6,000 permanent and 11,000 removable – in place especially for the Games, after which the centre will be turned into an advanced international standard facility integrating swimming, athletics, training and leisure activities.
In addition to use in the Water Cube, Palintest testing kits will be also used in the National Swimming Training Hall, Hilton Hotel and other major training and entertainment facilities. Similar Palintest products successfully guaranteed smooth operations of the Aqua Centre during the Sydney 2000 Games.
